I began reading a book today, Jessie, by Lori Wick. This is part of the Big Sky Dreams series. As I was reading about the main character telling his wife what he had been doing the last eight years, the story seemed very familiar.

Immediately, in the middle of the page, I dropped the book and ran over to the shelf I have of the other 31 Lori Wick books I had. It must be in the Yellow Rose series, I thought, but I couldn't figure it out. Still annoyed, knowing that I had read about this character before somewhere, I turned to the internet. I quickly found that it was in the Yellow Rose series, A Texas Sky, in fact. How cool was that? A minor character from one book in one series was then a major character in a completely different series!

I always loved series due to the fact that you usually got to see major characters become minor characters in other ones and still get little glimpses into their lives, but it's more rare to see an author have characters from different series live in the same universe.

Knowing this, I skip to the end of the book to see if the author has a note. Why did I do this before all my hard work? Her Author's Note at the end of the book spelled out that she had the character from that series in that book as the lead character in this book and mentioned how she had never done that before. Had to do everything the hard way, I did. *hehe*

Hanna is certainly making things quite wet! Of course, my sister and I decided to go out and ended up getting quite wet. And stuck in traffic due to accidents. Come on, you can drive through a snow storm going 65 mph without blinking, but a bit of rain, and you're off the road.

I also discovered that I really need another storage compartment of some sort for my books. I've run out of room yet again. Thus, they are not looking as pretty as they once did. This annoys me. I like my books to look pretty on the shelves, and the shelves just won't hold them all. My mum suggested I put some of them in storage, but I can't do that... how will I be able to see them and grab them any time I want to reread passages or just look at how pretty them are on the shelves?!?! *sigh* I may be a bit obsessed with my books.

*sigh*

So this article was published by the Associated Press...

In a May 13 review of "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian," The Associated Press, relying on production notes from Walt Disney Pictures, reported that the film was an adaptation of the second book in C.S. Lewis' series.

"Prince Caspian" was chronologically the second book to be released in the series. But after more of the series was written, it became sequentially the fourth book.

It IS the second book! Book five and six, aka The Horse and His Boy and The Magician's Nephew are supposed to be later, since it's out of the normal four book storyline of the first four. In my opinion, throwing those other two in to make Prince Caspian number four is just ridiculous and would be utterly confusing to new readers.

*takes deep breath* This issue just really annoys me and I may be a wee bit passionate about it. Okay, very passionate about it. *grin*

I was reading this post over at [info]doctorwho, which shows a picture of some books on a shelf that will be in an ep. What got me interested were the comments about how they were not in alphabetical order, and how people organize their things.

This got me thinking of how I do it as well. I would never think to organize my books alphabetically by title. Then I realized that this was mostly due to the fact that my books tend to be in series. They are organized first by genre, then author, and then chronologically by series. At least, as much as they can be in the limited space in my room.

Now DVDs are another matter entirely. They MUST be alphabetical... AFTER being organized by genre. *hehe* I have them broken out into Action/Adventure, Animation/Cartoon, Austen (Jane gets her own section *grin*), Christian, Comedy, Drama, Musicals, SciFi/Fantasy, Shakespeare (he also gets his own section), Star Trek (movies stay with the TNG series), and Veggietales (because I have the whole series, so they must have their own section).

Except for the series of Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, and Veggietales, which are in chronological order of release... everything else must be in alphabetical order. And that way, I always know where to find whatever I am looking for.

And in case I can't remember where it might be... I created a database with all the pertinent information so that I can find it. *hehe*

I am such a geek.

I went to my favorite Christian bookstore with my sister today 'cause I needed a CD and had a coupon. That's all I needed. A CD. Well, and check the books while I was there... just 'cause.

Emma and I got ours CDs, and I didn't find any of my new books out yet. So... that's it, just the CD, right? And then I saw it. *angelic music* A display for buy 2 books, get 1 free.

I hang my head down. They got me. I haven't even looked at what is there yet, and they already got me. *laugh* Needless to say, I walked out of there with three books and a CD. And due to the coupon, they whole thing cost me $16! *grin* Now I just need time to read...

My job took me to a town I am not normally in, as it is wont to do, so for lunch I stopped by the local Barnes and Noble.

As I head for the Christian Fiction section, I look around to see if there is anything new that isn't at any of my other stores. The title of one book catches my eye as it seems it could be a Historical Fiction one. I read the back cover... so it is. Seems mildly interesting. However, I purchased eight books yesterday at the used book store, so I put it back and thought, "Maybe next time."

Before I leave, I decide to take a peek at the book just in case. There are approximately 300 pages in this book, and I flip open to around 270. I read two paragraphs and it catches my attention. I like where this book ends up... and thus I must have it now. *grin*

Thus... what seemed mildly interesting knowing nothing, suddenly became exciting because I know what is coming.

I am so weird...

I bought a 'coffee table' book today. It's called Cosmos: A Field Guide by Giles Sparrow. It's HUGE. It's 17.3 x 14.2 x 1.3 inches. And weighs 8.5 pounds! That's more that my computer!

But the pictures are gorgeous! Now... I just need a coffee table to put it on. *grin* Definitely worth the $20. But it's kinda funny that it states that it is £50.00 in the UK.

I love vacations. I just spent five hours straight reading a book, cover to cover. I knew that Lady of Milkweed Manor by Julie Klassen would definitely be a page turner so I'd need the time to read it.

Five hours and 405 pages later, I am done. I love getting lost in a good book. Especially since it was during a time period I love. 19th century England.

Of course, being lost in a book means that my internal clock is totally messed up at the moment, so instead of being tired at 21:00, I'm wide awake and wondering when I should have eaten dinner. Probably should try to get some sleep though. Long day tomorrow. Christmas is at our house this year, so there is a LOT of cleaning to do tomorrow, followed by Christmas Eve service.

Part 2 of my review. So... I've now read Chapters 1 - 3. I've decided that Mark Morris is awesome, despite the little inaccuracies here and there. I've got two things to mention. Favorite parts relating the Doctor remembering stuff of the past and joys/tweaks about the New England words.

spoilers, technically, but not of the plot itself )

and here's the New Englandish things )

Oh, I'm enjoying this book so much more than the last one. Never even finished the last one, actually. Alas, poor Dodo, I knew ye not well.

So, I have begun my journey into reading Forever Autumn. The first sentence of the back cover states: "It is almost Halloween in the sleepy New England town of Blackwood Falls." Since I live in a relatively sleepy New England town, I had to read looking for how they are portraying said New Englanders. I've read through the prologue thus far.

spoilers through the prologue )

So, if you didn't want to read all that, I have another American/British question. The thing that you would dig with... do you call it a shovel or a spade?

I have now read the first Decide Your Destiny book, The Spaceship Graveyard by Colin Brake. I read it four times today, actually.

It's a cute little book. They definitely have the Choose Your Own Adventure feel, I just wish it was a choice more like my Narnia Solo Games.

In this book, you had to make choices like "if the Doctor talks first" or "if Martha talks first". Well, technically that's picking out an option, but it's not really making your own destiny.

However, I just checked the second book, Alien Arena by Richard Dungworth, and that one IS like I was expecting with things like "to go to the left" or "to go to the right". THAT'S choosing what I'm going to do. That makes me feel more in the adventure then just following along and picking how the story will go. That one also has a lovely cover which I can then prop on my desk to see tomorrow at work. *grin*

I've decided that I just about like everything that Kathleen Morgan has written. Scottish, Scottish-American (usually westerns), and Fantasy books all intrigue me. I'm just not into the contemporary.

Now, she just needs to hurry up to write a sequel to Giver of Roses since I've been waiting to see what happens for the last couple of years. In the meantime, I've got three others to read... well, more like one and a half. I've already read through Embrace the Dawn and half way through Lady of Light. And looking at her website, I find I own everything except for the contemporary one. Oooo, and she has a new book coming out in January!

Anyway, I need to go finish up my current one and debate when I'll read the next. If you love 16-17th century Scottish literature or 19-20th century Scottish-American literature... she's the author for you!

Jane Austen is awesome. *grin* Now, I've read this book before, but I just bought a new copy which is the Insight Edition. This has little things in the margins with tidbits of Britain during that time period, or things from Austen's life, or just things the editors found cute.

For instance, the book describes Darcy... "Mr. Darcy soon drew the attention of the room by his fine, tall person, handsome features..." at this point there is a tidbit that states "Yep, sounds like Colin Firth to us, too." *hehe*

Or interesting knowledge like "Ladies unwilling to dance would alter that evening's headdress with a distinct kind of lappet or fold, since not all were confident in their abilities."

Or learning for the reason of those "----shire." For instance, "I hope your plans in favour of the -----shire will not be affected by his being in the neighbourhood." is because "the blank spaces are left to avoid libel or slander. In P&P, they're almost always linked with Wickham. For reasons that will become clear."

I'm loving this book all over again. And completely recommend this edition of it. *grin* I'm up to the ball at Netherfield. Oh, I think I need to put one of the movies in. Hmmm... the A&E with Colin Firth or the 2005 one? Difficult choice.
